Occupation Percolation.
August - December. 2011
Eureka Dam, Florida.
In a remote part of northern central Florida is an area known as the Eureka Dam, a beautiful blend of forest, desert, and marshland. Currently unoccupied by people, this site was chosen for the design and build of a science research institute and an artist retreat. Due to the contrast in site-specific ecosystems, as well as the stark distinction between occupants, I chose to focus the structure on the thresholds where these contrasts merged. Though both scientists and artists would have their private work spaces, more public spaces would be placed where ever the two work spaces intersected. These intersections would occur where forest met marsh, where marsh met desert, or where forest met desert.
